The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
