Senate Approves Legislation to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Files

The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will require the publication of case documents related to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the lower house and a reversal by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. Trump's team relented after months of trying to delay the cross-party initiative involving a controversy that has dogged the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a 427-1 tally.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have waited patiently,” the top Senate Democrat said in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to adopt it by consent. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next goes to Trump for his signature. He indicated on Monday that he would sign the measure.

Even though the president has for an extended period rejected the outcry over the official management of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the past few days, and said he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with victims and their advocates who were seated in a viewing area, applauded after the bill was approved. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who stated he feared the measure would disclose identifying details of individuals involved, those under scrutiny and others implicated in the investigation.
